Screen Pals
Your privacy, explained clearly

Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Screen Pals processes, why it is needed, what stays on your device, and which trusted services receive limited information.

Effective date: August 3, 2026  ·  Last updated: August 3, 2026

Plain-language promiseWe do not access contacts, call logs, precise location, notification content, or microphone audio. Music reactions are based on playback information processed locally; Screen Pals does not record audio or upload listening history.

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy applies to the Screen Pals Android application (package name com.screenpals.cute.shiemji), referred to as “Screen Pals,” “the app,” “we,” or “us.” By using the app, you acknowledge the practices described here.

Screen Pals places animated characters on your status bar or elsewhere on your screen. Most character behavior and preferences are processed entirely on your device.

Mostly on-device

Mascot choices, placement, reactions, size, and appearance settings are handled locally.

No audio recording

Music reactions use current playback state—not microphone recordings or listening-history uploads.

Limited service data

Ads, analytics, crash reporting, and billing use Google services described below.

You stay in control

Sensitive Android access is requested through system screens and can be revoked in device settings.

2. Information we handle

Information stored or processed on your device

  • App preferences: selected mascots, companion slots, display mode, size, position, movement settings, background selection, onboarding status, trial state, and Premium entitlement status.
  • Device state: charging, battery, screen, boot, and playback-state signals used to trigger mascot reactions.
  • Current media information: active playback and media-session controls used to detect whether music is playing and enable music reactions. Notification content is not read, stored, or uploaded.
  • Touch interactions: taps, dragging, and character controls required to operate the on-screen mascots.

These items remain on the device unless Android includes local app data in a user-controlled device backup or device transfer. Clearing app storage or uninstalling the app generally removes locally stored app data, subject to Android backup behavior.

We do not receive your card or bank details. Google Play processes payment information directly under Google’s terms. Screen Pals receives only the purchase information needed to grant or restore the purchased feature.

3. Android permissions and access

Screen Pals may request or use the following Android capabilities:

  • Display over other apps: required to place mascots over the status bar or other apps. You grant and revoke this access from Android settings.
  • Notification access: used only to access active media sessions for playback reactions and media controls. The notification callbacks are intentionally ignored; Screen Pals does not read or store notification titles, messages, senders, or other notification content.
  • Notifications: used for the ongoing foreground-service notification required by Android while a mascot is active.
  • Foreground service: keeps an enabled mascot visible and responsive.
  • Run after startup: may restore a mascot that you previously left enabled after a device restart or app update.
  • Internet and network state: used by ads, consent management, analytics, crash reporting, and Google Play Billing.

The app does not request access to contacts, call logs, precise location, the microphone, camera, photos, videos, or general files and documents.

4. Third-party services

Screen Pals uses the following Google services. Their processing is governed by their respective terms and privacy documentation.

Google Mobile Ads and User Messaging Platform

Rewarded ads let eligible users unlock limited features. Google Mobile Ads may collect and share IP address, ad or app identifiers, app interactions, and diagnostic information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. The User Messaging Platform obtains and stores advertising-consent choices where required.

Google Analytics for Firebase

Firebase Analytics helps us understand broad feature usage and improve the app. Events may include mascot selection, trial activation, paywall display, and Premium unlock. We do not intentionally send notification content, music history, or user-authored text as analytics parameters.

Firebase privacy and security information

Firebase Crashlytics

Crashlytics receives crash reports, non-fatal errors, technical diagnostics, and associated installation identifiers so we can identify and fix stability problems.

Google Play Billing

Google Play processes in-app purchases. Screen Pals checks current purchase status and acknowledges completed purchases to provide and restore Premium access. Google—not Screen Pals—handles payment credentials.

5. Your choices and controls

  • Overlay and notification access: revoke either permission at any time in Android settings. Related features will stop working.
  • Advertising consent: where legally required, Google’s consent interface provides available advertising choices before ads are requested.
  • Advertising ID: Android settings may allow you to reset or delete the device advertising ID.
  • Rewarded ads: you choose whether to initiate a rewarded ad. Declining may leave the associated optional feature locked.
  • Local data: clear Screen Pals storage or uninstall the app through Android settings.
  • Purchases: manage eligible purchases, payment methods, and refunds through Google Play.

6. Retention, transfers, and security

Local preferences are retained until you reset them, clear app storage, or uninstall the app, subject to Android backup and restore. Third-party providers retain data according to their policies and configured retention periods. For example, Firebase states that Crashlytics crash traces and associated identifiers are generally retained for 90 days before removal begins.

Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, they use legal safeguards for international data transfers.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. Data sent to the Google services identified above is encrypted in transit. However, no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

7. Children’s privacy

Screen Pals is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection regarding personal data, or to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Because Screen Pals does not provide user accounts and most preferences remain on your device, we may not be able to identify or retrieve local data. Requests concerning information controlled by Google may need to be directed to Google using its privacy tools.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app, legal requirements, or service providers change. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and provide additional notice where required. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies from its effective date.
